What is the Speed Limit – Interconnection Frequency Control
November 30–December 1
Presented by Blue Water Energy Services

The utility frequency is the frequency at which alternating current (AC) is transmitted from a power plant to the end user, and in most parts of North America it is typically 60 Hz. This one-day course is designed for system operators of all experience levels who want to better understand frequency and its characteristics from an operations perspective. Topics include: Frequency Control, Automatic Generation Control (AGC), Impact of Frequency Deviations, and Underfrequency Protection. The course will also cover in detail the Frequency Bias setting for Balancing Authorities and how the setting affects the Area Control Error (ACE) and Automatic Generation Control (AGC). Other topics include governor components and operation, how units respond to frequency through their governor response, and the impact and nature of frequency deviations on the interconnection and Balancing Authority. The course culminates with students taking a multiple choice exam reflective of the NERC Content Areas as defined in the NERC Content Outline.
